BillMax Mikrotik Provisioning

For ISPs that utilize Mikrotik routers in their network infrastructure, depending on how deployed, BillMax can be configured to manage customer access. This includes access (authentication) and bandwidth control.

Specifically, this is accomplished by management of IP address lists and DHCP leases. The assumption is that Mikrotik routers are installed as edge routers (at each tower site or location).

To provision customer services using Mikrotik routers, the following are required:

  • BillMax 2026 or newer.
  • Mikrotik router(s) with at least RouterOS v6.43. This is a known minimum as old versions used a now non supported API login mechanism. That said, the BillMax implementation has only been tested and used with the latest releases. We recommend that the latest stable release be used. In addition, the router must have the necessary license for API use.

The configuration takes place both on the routers and BillMax. The vast majority of the setup on the routers is not described in this document. The assumption here is that the router interfaces, components, modules, etc. are already in place and nothing prevents access so that customer traffic can flow through the router as required.

The BillMax integration is limited to only those aspects of the configuration that allow access and manage desired bandwidths.
